I own a 2001 Concorde LX, which I believe uses the same 2.7l engine, with 58k miles. I changed my oil every 3000 miles and just switched to synthetic oil. Before I switched I did an engine flush to try to rid the engine of any possible sludge. Do you think I may have done more harm than good with the flush and do you think I'm too late switching to synthetic? I wish I had known of this problem sooner! I used to get a very mild smell of burning oil coming through when the heater was on, do think it's a head gasket problem or just the smell of the oil baking. I removed the oil pan at 50k because the oil pressure light would come on at idle, dealer said the pick up screem may be clogged with sludge. I didn't find any sludge, it was actually pretty clean, but I guess most of the sludge sits at the top of the engine. Also the oil pressure light would come on a idle with a hot engine. Dealer first said it's probably a oil pump problem. With further investigation I found out there has been a service bulletin out since '99 with a fix. The oil pressure switch would over heat causing the oil light to come on or flicker at idle. You need to add a terminal/wire/vent ($30) to the oil pressure switch connector and run the wire up the harness to the top of the engine, I guess this helps by having some of the heat escape the connector up the wire to the top of the engine. There used to be a sealing dart in place where the new terminal/wire/vent goes. I wonder how many people had their oil pumps changed thinking that was the problem when it was only a overheated pressure switch. Hope you can answer some of my questions and that the info I provided was usefull.
