Default style changes for Boards?

Don't run a board, just use one, but wondering if the default treatment for messages has changed -- because the board did:

Replies that would have been on previous pages because they were posted to messages on previous pages --
now show up on top of the board with the tags 'Top of Thread' and 'Original Message' as links to higher threads

Subject lines still limited to 80 characters, but now display is truncated down as low as 40
so all messages displayed on only one line
