Edit

What they're saying on the news here is that you're not likely to catch the disease by simply passing someone on the street, or standing in a supermarket checkout.  However, you are at risk if you're living with a carrier, they're staying in your home, or you're a health worker caring for such a carrier.  There's also a current Ebola epidemic going on, although the spread seems to be in slow motion and relatively contained.
